Teaching Philosophy:
Our creative expression is as unique as our DNA. Your
Sound is Uniquely Yours. If you don’t express your sounds, words & ideas no
one will — they will never manifest and go unheard. Everything I “teach”
—Singing Performance, Acting, Yoga, Nia—is about facilitating you toward
freedom of thought, action and behavior. Singing is super charged for most of
us —a heightened experience of expression—making this Singing Performance work
a powerful way of opening hearts, minds and doors to creativity.
“There
is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated
through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this
expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any
other medium and will be lost.”—Martha Graham
I want to empower authentic self-expression. I want to
facilitate you deepening your relationship with yourself and the world around
you. I aspire to create and sustain an environment that supports risk-taking,
artistic growth & vulnerable exploration of Mind, Body, Emotions and
Spirit. I believe that anyone who calls himself or herself “Teacher” holds a
sacred responsibility to continue their own seeking, risk taking and journeying
down their own path of creative self-expression.
“Nothing can be
more important than being able to choose the way we think.” – Eknath Easwaran
I draw my intuition through my entire life experience
including 20 years of yoga study & meditation, my professional experience
and my music and theatre training to facilitate you toward goals that you
have and that we discover together. My goal as a teacher is to ask the
questions that help you discover and achieve your goals and take your
artistry where you want it to go.
The
seed of goodness and creativity is in everyone. This seed does not need to be
planted on a particular date, for it is already within us. It is
indestructible…When at last we begin to search for it, we discover it is
covered with— weeds of fear and anger, giant thistles of greed… Once we cease
to water them, the weeds begin to wither and droop, and finally they fall to
enrich the soil where the God-seed is growing. This God-seed within us will
grow into a God-tree of love and service if we nurture it carefully. – Eknath
Easwaran
I agree with Julia Cameron when she says in the Artists Way that
artists receive appropriate “criticism” with a feeling of “A-Ha” rather than
feelings of despair, futility or shame. I believe in encouraging you outside
your comfort zone toward your next level of personal risk taking through
supportive encouragement, challenging habitual behaviors & limiting
self-concepts, developing your technique and accessing ways for you to take
your next level of risk as an artist by maintaining an atmosphere of joy and playfulness.
“We all need joy,
and we can all receive joy in only one way, by adding to the joy of others.” –
Eknath Easwaran
I hold the space to sustain a community of artists—and YOU are
an artist— that thrives through shared risk taking, support and encouragement.
I maintain an arena for established artists and those just daring to honor
their own creative spark to nourish themselves and their creativity, fill their
wells, rest and dream.
